Tal Memorial 2009
The Tal Memorial 2009 will be one of the strongest tournaments of recent times. With 8 of the world's top 10 participating. To win this tournament will be an incredible feat. Let's just hope that the players come to fight. Usually in a tournament this strong there is an very high draw percentage. Morozevich, Ivanchuk and Carlsen will come to play. It will be hard to predict the mindset of the other players. Anand has an upcoming World Championship title defense, Kramnik can win this tournament if he decides he wants to, or you can expect an equal to +1 score if he is just looking for an equal result. Aronian is the man to beat lately. Gelfand, Leko, and Svidler you can expect many draws from an they will be happy with and equal score. Ponomariov has not been playing enough chess lately to be able to compete in such a strong event. I will be very surprised if one of the top 4 seeds do not win this event. If Carlsen can pull off another performance like he did in Nanjing, he will be without doubt the world #1.

Kamsky Baku 2009
Gata Kamsky will compete in the 2009 Baku Open. Lets see if he can bounce back from the rough time he has had lately. He has not been the same since his loss to Topalov. It happens to a lot of players. I am sure he will soon regain his form. Hopefully in time for November's FIDE World cup. I also think that since he has qualified for the Candidates tournament already he is not too motivated. Even in the upcoming World Cup the winner will receive a spot into the Candidates matches which he he already qualified for. So how hard will he push? He is the defending champion so hopefully that will be motivation enough. At the very least he will want to rise in the world rankings again. Despite his current loss in rating points he is still the top player in the U.S. in my opinion.

For the first time that I can remember the World Top 10 is the world Top 10. Usually there are players that had a good tournament and creep in there, but this looks accurate. I wouldn't put them in this exact order, but they are the Top 10. If I were to change anything I would add Svidler who is 12th and take out Radjabov. FIDE will now be publishing 6 lists a year instead of 4.
